Supportive Periodontal Therapy

Home Care Maintenance

You might be surprised to know that our gum health isn't as good as it should be. According to the American Academy of Periodontology, 3 out of every 4 Americans currently suffer from some form of gum disease. Gum disease is a serious chronic problem that causes bad breath and tooth loss. Gum disease has also been connected with other systemic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and low birth weight babies.

Flossing and Brushing is the number one method to help prevent gingival inflammation.

Please ask one of our staff members to demonstrate Dr. Romano’s technique so you may begin to floss and brush correctly by doing so you are helping your body defense system against all the pathologic bacteria that are trying to attack you teeth and gums, therefore destroying the BIOFILM... this Biofilm contains millions of pathogenic (BAD BUGS) bacteria that love to create communities below your gums and slowly begin to destroy your mouth and overall health.

Many studies have now demonstrated how these bacterial loads acts not only at the gingival level but a are also attacking, as a co-factor, and creating an inflammatory process to major blood vessels and organs around your body.

After you have been diagnosed with periodontal disease or gingivitis it is extremely important to continue every 3 months with aPeriodontal Therapy to prevent recurrence by allowing early recognition of areas that may be prone to further breakdown.

In this Therapy, Dr. Romano and his hygienist perform periodic evaluation of your mouth by taking x-rays, measuring your pockets with a special measuring tool "probe" and customizing your Oral Home-care instructions so you may continue with great oral health.

If you have extensive dental bridges, dental implants, root canals and crowns, we strongly recommend that you also continuously visit your General Dentist so their team can monitor the areas in question.

To help you achieve an indebt brushing, we recommend the use of electric toothbrushes and water-picks with Sonic technology

Philips Sonicare’s technology is designed to deliver superior results. Philips Sonicare toothbrushes, inspired by the sonic technology used during your dental cleanings, have dynamic cleaning action to reduce plaque along the gum line.

The bristles on a Sonicare also play an important part. Their high-velocity movement creates dynamic cleaning action and allows direct contact with each tooth. Sonicare's bristles are also designed to be extra gentle on teeth and gums.

The first time you use a Sonicare toothbrush, you'll notice that the cleaning technique feels entirely different than any other toothbrush. Now you know it's because it cleans in a way that is completely unique among other toothbrushes.

RomanoPerio & Associates wants to help you have a great and healthy smile.
